The California Supreme Court has announced their decision to uphold Prop 8 with a 6-1 vote. The decision was announced Tuesday morning at 10 am. Prop 8 was the ballot measure voted California voters passed last November banning same-sex marriage in the state. The ban came after same-sex marriages were allowed beginning in June 2008. Just when many people felt they had already seen enough of Miss California, Carrie Prejean, a topless photo of the beauty pageant contestant and National Organization for Marriage spokeswoman surfaced late on Monday night.

The photo, which first appeared on TheDirty.com, is allegedly one of six that exist of the 21-year-old Prejean, who came in first runner-up at the Miss USA pageant on April 18 after expressing her opposition to marriage equality onstage in Las Vegas. Insiders say the other five photos may be revealed soon.

View This Article/Section HIV’s Ancestor Is Millions of Years Old

Researchers at Stanford University report discovering an ancient predecessor to HIV that evolved in primates millions of years earlier than previously thought. The researchers studied gray mouse lemurs, native to Madagascar, and discovered they carried several lentiviruses, a family of pathogens that include HIV and the simian version of HIV common among other African monkeys. A genetic analysis and geographical studies showed the lemurs carried the lentiviruses for at least 14 million years and possibly as long as 85 million years. View This Article/Section ....more

President-elect Barack Obama said Monday he would continue outgoing President George W. Bush's international HIV/AIDS strategy and expand domestic efforts to fight the virus. The Obama administration plans to implement national strategies to decrease the rate of HIV transmission, including establishing a universal health care system, targeting minority communities, and supporting the Ryan White CARE Act.
