She’s been leading the pack or at least staying up with the group over the past few weeks on
Dancing with the Stars, but Monday night proved costly when
Marie Osmond took on the Samba. Although her performance level was stellar, as usual, her technique missed the mark, and her subsequent collapse to the ground had fans concerned about her health.
It was a night when the Spice Girls, Susan Lucci and Tori Spelling all came out to support their friends, but the passion on the floor didn’t quite live up to expectations.
Forty-eight-year-old American sweetheart and mother of eight, Osmond has been ruling the dance floor on the fifth season of the ABC hit show. She has been proving that age truly is only a state of mind with her charisma and charm that transcends the television screen, but this week the exaggerated pace of the samba proved to be a difficult undertaking.
Well known as part of the Osmond singing group and star of her own variety series with brother Donny, Marie has been delighting audiences for the past three decades, and decided to join this season of Dancing to bring her talents to a new generation of fans.
She has turned out some brilliant performances, and after the samba, it looked as though she may take her first bit of criticism from the judges.
As judge Len Goodmen began his critique, Osmond’s smiling face became flush, and she fell to the ground causing a huge gasp from the audience. After a commercial break, the star apologized for the performance and explained the fainting spell backstage.
"Once in a while that happens to me, when I get winded and I stop breathing," she explained backstage. "I'm so sorry.”
She was fortunately not hurt, but Osmond wound up at the bottom of the leader board. She will have to find out tonight whether her fan base will keep her in the competition.
