ESPN Anchor Mark Madden Fired for Sen. Kennedy ‘Assassination’ Comment A Pittsburgh-area sports talk show host has been fired for controversial remarks he made earlier this month regarding Sen. Edward Kennedy. Mark Madden said on air he hoped Kennedy 'would live long enough to be assassinated.' Kennedy was diagnosed last week with malignant glioma, which is a severe brain tumor.

Kentucky Derby Ends in Tragedy The largest Kentucky Derby crowd of the century gathered at Churchill Downs to witness the 134th running of the world’s most famous horse race. The 2-1 favorite Big Brown pulled out the win, but it was the second place horse that gained the most attention. The only filly in the 20 horse race, Eight Belles came up just shy of victory, but her run ended in tragedy when she was euthanized on the track after a deadly fall.

Hall of Fame Jockey Punished for Whipping Injured Horse The people over at PETA would be somewhat proud of horse racing officials who suspended and fined jockey Russell Baze for improperly using his whip during a race at Bay Meadows. Lava Man Three-peats as Winner of the Hollywood Gold Cup It's been 40 years since a horse pulled off a three-peat at the Hollywood Gold Cup, but this week, 6 year old gelding Lava Man edged A.P. Xcellent by a nose to win a third title. It was a 750,000 dollar win for the horse who has dominated the southern California race track scene, but it was one of the slowest wins in history.
