July 11, 2007 Lava Man Three-peats as Winner of the Hollywood Gold Cup It's been 40 years since a horse pulled off a three-peat at the Hollywood Gold Cup, but this week, 6 year old gelding Lava Man edged A.P. Xcellent by a nose to win a third title. It was a 750,000 dollar win for the horse who has dominated the southern California race track scene, but it was one of the slowest wins in history.
